Sony Xperia tipo (ST21a) hits the FCC; hints at North American release
The Sony Xperia tipo has passed through the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the United States. Whilst a variety of handsets pass through the FCC, many do not see a release in the US, however the fact that the ST21a version of the Xperia tipo has hit the FCC may hint at a future release in the region. The phone has compatibility with AT&T’s 3G bands, pretty much like all Sony Xperia handsets, so whilst AT&T may not pick this up, it could be distributed through the Sony Store sim-free. We may also see the Xperia tipo be released in Canada too.
The Xperia tipo sits at the entry-level end of the Xperia range with a single-core 800MHz Qualcomm MSM7225A chipset, 512MB RAM, 3.2-inch (320 x 480) display, 2.9GB of internal storage (2.5GB user accessible), microSD memory card support, 3.2MP camera resolution with VGA video recording and a 1500mAh battery. The phone will launch with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box.
